Winding down the window, singing at the top of your voice, and chewing sweets are among the common ways that drivers try to overcome tiredness at the wheel. But understanding the risks associated with driving when tired is guaranteed to make drivers and their employers wake up.

According to statistics from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), driver fatigue is likely to be a contributory factor in one in five road traffic accidents and up to a quarter of fatal and serious accidents.
