Home emergency insurance market: State of emergency

It is open season in the home emergency insurance market. A record fine of £3.5m was handed down to one of the leading providers, Homeserve, for mis‑selling, while various personal finance articles have been lambasting the cover, declaring it ‘useless', ‘riddled with exclusions' and ‘a rip‑off'. Some media reports have even gone as far as declaring it ‘the next PPI scandal'. But does home emergency insurance really deserve such a bad rap, and are there still opportunities for insurers in this market?
