The impact of health insurance in Africa and Asia: A systematic review

Health insurance is attracting more and more attention in low and middle-income countries as a means for improving health care utilisation and protecting households against impoverishment from out-of-pocket expenditures.

This paper evaluates the impact of health insurance on resource mobilisation, financial protection, service utilisation, quality of care, social inclusion and community empowerment in low- and lower-middle-income countries in Africa and Asia.
