In the case of the major fires in high-rise flats during the past five years, none are recorded as having originated from deliberate fire setting. It should be pointed out, however, that the figures are based on a sample of just six major fires, but this is a time when perhaps we should be thankful for small sample sizes. Fire risk assessors who have undertaken assessments in high-rise flats will not be surprised that in one of the cases the firefighters were impeded by poor access to the building.
