Ordnance Survey is Great Britain's national mapping agency. It is our job to collect, maintain and distribute the most accurate and up-to-date geographic information (GI) of the whole country that
government, business and individuals all rely upon.
We generate our revenue through licensing the intellectual property rights in our data under Crown copyright. We do this directly with customers and via more than 500 private-sector partners. We invest heavily in attracting partners to deliver customer-led solutions to meet market demand.
We are a non-ministerial government department and an Executive Agency responsible to the Secretary of State for the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). We operate as a Trading Fund under the Government Trading Funds Act 1973 and The Ordnance Survey Trading Fund Order 1999.
Our vision is that Ordnance Survey and its partners will be the content providers of choice for location-based information in the new information economy.

Using geography to identify and mitigate operational risk

Using geography in the fight against insurance fraud: A research study undertaken by Ordnance Survey in conjunction with the Insurance Fraud Investigators Group (IFIG)

Ordnance Survey undertook a follow-up study with the members of the Insurance Fraud Investigators Group, to determine how geography is used in detecting and combating insurance fraud.
